Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the upcoming Hunger Games film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Return to Panem
The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, considering the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
