Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart

Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to speak out against the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and deepen rifts across the country.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress

Speaking with media, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a woman.

Previous Comments

Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term seems distinct,” noted she about his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”

Current Projects

The actor is discussing her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in a remote area. During a press conference for the project in Venice, she spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is no less than a atrocity and it’s horrible.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”

She sought to redirect anger about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration supported by more than 4,000 arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her performance in her latest project. Even though Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, the actress said that she connected with elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, shortly after shooting ended.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called Zurzuvae and I took it for 14 days and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also spoke of the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.

“It feels nice,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
