Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
