Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
