'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Missing Young People Await Answers After Alpine Fire
The relatives of teenagers lost after a devastating blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an painful wait for answers and requesting information about their children via social media.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed footage show the ceiling catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another scores more. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with the process still underway to locate the final individuals.
In the waiting period, loved ones have been using online platforms to request information about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of Lutry near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she said.
She explained that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they went through hell."
The Italy's government has said that six of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him passion and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An representative has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the venue.
